Due to John being an army brat, Reese spent her childhood and adolescence in Nashville, Tennessee and this left a great impact of the Episcopalian religion on her. Reese made a foray into the world of acting at the age of 15. She first acted in a tele-movie named Wildflower which was directed by Diane Keaton. At the same age Reese got the opportunity to act in the lead role in The Man in the Moon. Her selection was a big issue for the critics but a great step towards success for Reese herself. She was then offered several lead and other quality roles. Some of her remarkable performances include the role of Nonnie Parker in the Disney/Amblin film A Far Off Place, Wendy Pfister in S.F.W, Vanessa Lutz in Freeway, Lissa in the drama thriller Best Laid Plans etc. Witherspoon was also nominated for the Golden Globe award for her acting as Tracy Flick in the film Election. But Reese won the Golden Globe and several other awards for her wonderful performance as June Cater Crash in Walk the Line. Witherspoon was presented the Golden Globe Award for the best actress in a lead role, the British Academy’s BAFTA for the best actress in a lead role, the ‘Favorite Leading Lady’ at the 32nd Annual People’s Choice Awards and the Academy Awards for the best actress. Talking of her personal life, Reese got married to the American actor Ryan Philippe in June 1999. The couple lived happily with two children till October 2006, the time they decided to part off their ways. Reese filed for divorce from Ryan on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. And the quarrel between the parents for the custody of the kids is a matter still to be finalized. |
